The autumn is a lovely time of year, the days are warm and the light is soft, a wonderful time to be outside after the hot, dry summer. It is also a busy time with art shows running one after the other and juggling the logistics of getting artwork delivered and collected. I have just entered my fourth show, the Kilmore Art Expo which had a high quality of artwork on display and I was honoured to receive first prize for a drawing 'On the run'. It is nice to see a small community like Kilmore raise the sponsorship and present some great prizemoney which helps attract entries and quality art.

In the studio I have been working on some pencil drawings and preparing for  my workshop, which is now full. I look forward to taking that here in my studio next weekend.

I also have nearly finished my demo piece that I worked on at the Man from Snowy River Festival. I will post it here but I think it still needs a bit of tweaking... what do you think?

Man from Snowy River Festival

This time of year always sees me travel to the High Country for the weekend of the Man from Snowy River Festival. It is a great few days where the town of Corryong embraces the wonderful poem written by Banjo Patterson with many events and attractions. I enter the art show and demonstrate for a couple of days, enjoying the interaction with the public which makes a nice change from working in solitude in the studio. As a horse painter, it is an ideal show to display my work and to see many other equine paintings grace the hall. I receive many lovely comments about my work and I sincerely thank all the people who take the time to stop by and have a chat, I really appreciate the feedback. I was honoured again to receive a second prize for my painting 'Winter Sun'... that's three shows for three awards, yay!

With the man from Snowy River at their heels..."

Following in the aftermath of my last blog, I have just entered my second art show for the year and by doing so have put my work out there to be judged by 'the judge' and the public. I was honoured to receive not one but two 'highly commended' awards in two different sections of the show. There was over 850 pieces of art hanging and so I am very pleased to have had artwork selected for awards. It is always encouraging to be recognised in a positive way and wonderful to get feedback from a different perspective, another reason to put your art 'out there' for comment. On the other hand, I had a couple of friends go along to the opening night and their feedback was also very valuable to me, in that they both felt I had made a poor choice in one of my frames on another painting to which I agreed and will change it when it returns home. Again, great to get outside opinions to help you along the way!
